BESPOKE JOINERY

Crafted to be lived in.

Staircases, windows, doors, garden rooms and fitted storage, made to measure for the homes of Cardiff and Newport.

White bay windows and French doors with stained-glass toplights

Good joinery is the part of a house you touch every day: the handrail under your palm, the sash that lifts without a fight, the wardrobe door that closes with a soft click. Our joiners build staircases, wardrobes and fine timber work to the exact measurements of your rooms. Windows, doors, glazing and aluminium follow the same path, supplied and fitted by one dedicated NineCraft team, with one point of contact and no hand-offs.

Staircases

The first thing a guest sees, and the last thing you touch at night.

A staircase sets the tone the moment someone walks through the front door. Our joiners build straight, winding and open-tread staircases in oak, ash or painted softwood, with balustrades, newels and handrails to suit the age of the house, from turned spindles to a clear glass panel set into an oak string. Where the stairs are sound, we renew the treads and rails and close in the space beneath with a panelled spandrel. The handrail becomes the part of the house you reach for without thinking.

Wardrobes and fitted storage

Fitted to the inch, with no flat-pack compromises. Our joiners make wardrobes, alcove units, walk-in dressing rooms and wall panelling to the exact shape of your rooms, with carcasses, doors, shelving and lighting made to measure and finished by hand in paint or natural timber. Every piece is scribed to the walls, ceiling and floor, so each door closes with a soft, even hush.

Internal glazed screens

Light, shared between rooms.

A glazed screen divides a room without closing it off. Slim black frames in a steel-look finish let light travel from kitchen to living space, or from hallway to study, while keeping noise and cooking smells where they belong. We supply and fit the screens and glazed doors, then finish the floor, plaster and joinery around them, so morning light falls through the whole room in long, clean lines.

Doors and gates

The front door is the first impression a house gives. Painted timber doors with arched fanlights and brass ironmongery, oak entrance doors, runs of oak French doors and oak plank gates set into old garden walls are all supplied and fitted by NineCraft, with every frame, threshold and finish chosen with you. The reward is a latch that lifts with a quiet, weighty click.

Every opening, measured on its own.

Bespoke windows

Off-the-shelf frames rarely suit older or unusual openings. Casement, flush and feature windows are made to the exact size of each opening, with glazing bars, mouldings and ironmongery chosen for the character of the house, from arched Gothic-style frames to a heritage casement set in a deep oak reveal. We supply and fit every window and finish the reveals and sills by hand, so each one frames its view like a picture.

Sash and period windows

Original box sashes, bay windows and coloured-glass toplights give a period home much of its character, and they deserve careful work. New sliding sashes keep the slim profiles and traditional proportions of the originals, so the house looks right from the street and feels warmer within. We supply and fit them, then restore the reveals, sills and decoration around them, until coloured light spills across the floorboards once more.

Listed buildings

Old buildings, quietly respected.

Work on a listed property needs patience and a light touch. We work sensitively with listed and period properties, alongside your conservation advisers, matching existing profiles, timbers and proportions so new pieces sit quietly beside the old, whether that is a window, a door or an oak gate in an old garden wall. Repair is considered first wherever it is sensible, and every detail is agreed with you, so the house keeps its quiet dignity.

Barn conversions

Barns come with big openings, exposed beams and walls that are rarely square. Full-height glazing set into old openings, oak French doors, galleries with oak and glass balustrades, staircases and oak-framed porches are all fitted to the building rather than forced against it. We supply and fit the glazing, and our joiners scribe every timber to the old structure, so weathered beams and clean modern glass share the same evening light.

Bi-folding doors

Open the whole wall to the garden.

Bi-fold doors fold right back, so a kitchen, living room or garden room opens fully to the outside. You choose the number of panels, which way they stack and whether to add a day door for everyday use, and a Juliet balcony above can carry the same light upstairs. We supply and fit them in timber or aluminium and finish the floor and joinery around them, so on a summer evening the wall simply disappears.

Architectural aluminium

For a crisp, modern look, aluminium gives slim sightlines, generous glass and very little upkeep. Full-height glazing, corner windows, sliding and glazed doors, and windows sized for wide openings are all supplied and fitted by NineCraft. Frames are powder coated in the colour you choose, from soft greys and anthracite to black and bronze, and sit as gracefully in an old barn wall as in a crisp, white-rendered extension.

Conservatories

A conservatory brings light and garden views into the house in every season. Frames and glazing are made to your measurements and supplied and fitted by NineCraft, with roof options chosen for comfort through the colder months. The same approach can enclose a pool or a garden room. Inside, we finish every surface with care, so breakfast is taken in the garden's own light, whatever the weather.

Orangeries and roof lanterns

Look up, and the sky is part of the room.

Where a conservatory is mostly glass, an orangery pairs solid walls with a lantern roof, for a room that feels more settled. Look up and the sky is framed: a pitched roof lantern draws light deep into a garden room or kitchen, and a flat rooflight brightens an extension where a window cannot go. We supply and fit the lanterns and rooflights and plan the joinery, floors and finishes inside with you, so the room fills with soft, changing daylight from above.

Decking and glass balustrades

Raised decking with broad, easy steps turns a sloping garden into a place to sit, eat and watch the evening go, and a glass-balustrade balcony does the same one floor up. Our joiners build the deck and steps in low-maintenance composite boards, and glass keeps the view open at the edge. Everything is supplied and fitted by one team, ready for long summer evenings with the garden at your feet.

Joinery questions

What kind of bespoke joinery do you make?

Staircases, fitted wardrobes, alcove units, panelling and fine timber work, all made to measure for your rooms and fitted by our own team, so every piece sits square, level and exactly where it should. Windows, doors, glazed screens, glass balustrades and architectural aluminium are supplied and fitted by NineCraft too, so one team looks after the whole job.

Can you match the period features already in my home?

Yes. We can reproduce existing mouldings, skirting and architraves, and replace or repair spindles, balustrades and newel posts on a staircase, so new work reads as part of the house. Sliding sash and flush casement windows, with their traditional proportions, are supplied and fitted by NineCraft as well.

Which timbers and finishes can I choose from?

Solid hardwoods such as oak, alongside good-quality sheet materials, finished in paint, oil or lacquer. Where it matters, we use traditional mortice and tenon joints for strength. For glazed doors and screens, powder-coated aluminium is also an option. We talk through how the room is used and agree every choice with you in writing before anything is ordered.

Can you work on a listed building?

Yes, with care. We work sensitively with listed and period properties, alongside your conservation advisers, and match new work to existing profiles, timbers and proportions. Listed building consent and any other permissions stay with you and your advisers, and we work to the details they agree. We are glad to talk it through at your free consultation.

How do I get a quote, and who fits the work?

Book a free 30-minute consultation at home or by video call and tell us what you have in mind, with rough sizes if you have them. We then send a clear, itemised written quote. Our own team measures, makes and fits the work, windows and glazing included, with one point of contact throughout.
